Richard and Frances Lockridge

Richard and Frances Lockridge began writing detective fiction in 1940, using a husband-and-wife detective team - Pam and Jerry North - who had already featured in some non-detective magazine short stories. Pam and Jerry were New Yorkers, whose police foil (and later Jerry's brother-in-law) was Lieutenant William Weigand, but later they were joined by Merton Heimrich, an upstate sheriff. Jerry was a bright, solid and reliable publisher, Pam was a slightly daffy society hostess who had flashes of inspiration which usually put her in danger of her life. The detective stories starring the Norths ended with the death of Frances Lockridge in 1963, but Richard Lockridge continued writing about other setectives for some years afterwards.
