"FROM A DESERT OF DESPAIR"

By Helen Charlotte Hill

You were gone.
Tragically, coldly, dreadfully
Gone.
I saw your image,
But my eyes were misty.
I loved you still,
But my heart was numb.
I missed you so much
That I wouldn't let myself feel.
And then,
From the bleak and barren nothingness
Of a world without you,
Out of the parched desert of despair,
My bowed head slowly raised
As I heard a sound.
A sound which began to stir my heart
Even before it fully registered in my brain.
The sound,
The wondrous sound, of your voice.
The words had a shape
That only you could create,
The notes brought back a wealth of emotion
So achingly familiar.
You were here again!
I missed you so,
I died inside
But ah!
You're here again!
