BASKETS THEMES AND CONTAINER IDEAS
The ideas here are from
the members of Crafts On-Line and Christmas Everyday.
FOR THE
ALL-AROUND BAKER
Baking sheet or cake pan, oven thermometer,
minute timer, potholders, sex of mixing bowls, measuring spoons, dry measuring
cups, liquid measuring cup, spatula, cookbook or recipe card filled with
recipes, one of the Craft Recipe crafts, cooling rack, apron, mixing bowls.
My idea: Fill a large ceramic mixing
bowl lined with kitchen towel or apron. Fill with a few of the items,
what you put it depends on you. The Cookbook should be small enough
to fit the bowl or put in recipe cards that you make yourself. Arrange
the items to give it height and if you're giving a baking pan, cookie sheet,
or cooling rack, use these as a base for the ceramic bowl. Wrap with
a nice colored cellophane wrapper, tie at the top and put a tag on it.
FOR PASTA LOVERS
A large collander lined with a couple
nice linen napkins or kitchen towel, filled with an assortment of dried
pasta shapes, a bottle of two or pasta sauce, a cheese grater, a pepper
grinder, parmesan cheese, some breadsticks and some pasta sauce mixes.
Add a bottle of wine and a Pasta Cookbook.
FOR THE
VEGETARIAN
In a basket or container, lined with
decorative kitchen towel. Add an assortment of dried beans, peas,
lentils, and whole grains, along with vegetable shaped magnets, corn holders,
vegetable shaped salt and pepper shakers and or a vegetable shaped trivet.
Then add a Meatless Cookbook or Vegetarian Cookbook and a Salad Cookbook.
FOR THE PIZZA
LOVER
Regular or deep-dish pizza pans, 12 or
14 inches in diameter; packaged pizza crust mix, assorted tomato sauces,
bottled or packaged pizza sauce, cheese shaker, a pizza wheel, grated parmesan
cheese, a Pizza Cookbook and a kitchen mitt or pot holder. Add some
breadsticks too and a bottle of wine.
FOR THE SALAD
LOVER
Large salad bowl filled with salad tongs,
cheese grater, pepper grinder, a plastic cutting board, assorted interesting
bottled salad dressings, flavored oils or vinegars, croutons, breadsticks
and a Salad Cookbook. Line the container with a decorative kitchen
towel.
FOR THE BREAD
BAKER
Large bread mixing bowl, filled with
large wooden or plastic spoons, large rubber scrapers, large wire whisks,
and bread pans of various sizes, assorted bread mixes make sure to add
some quick bread mixes too, packages of yeast and a Bread Recipe Cookbook.
FOR MEAT LOVERS
A roasting pan lined with decorative
towel. Fill it with an assortment of meat and poultry seasoning and
a Main course Cookbook, a meat thermometer, apron, pot holders or mitts.
You could also put in a bottle of wine.
HOSTESS GIFT
Fill a basket with shredded metallic
paper and add 3 or 4 interesting flavors of bottled water, unusual fruit
juices, or small bottles of wine bottles of wine, beers, or liquers.
FOR
THE GOURMET COFFEE LOVER
On a serving tray arrange a coffee grinder
with assorted kinds of coffee beans {Or an expresso/cappuccino coffee pot}
Add individual packets of flavored coffees, flavored coffee creamers, coffee
mugs, chocolate-covered coffee beans, imported cookies and a couple chocolate
covered spoons.
FOR THE
GARDENER
A big vegetable pickers basket.
Filled with a Garden How-To book of favorite plant/flower. Graduated
set of clay pots. Gardening gloves, gardening tools, a starter nursery
pack and maybe a recipe book for using the vegetables that are harvested
from the garden or maybe a book on making preserves and pickles.
THE CHOCOHOLIC
A container lined with napkins.
Filled with variety of individually wrapped homemade fudge, assorted chocolated
candy samplers, double chocolate-chocolate chipped cookies or one of the
recipes from the Cookie in a jar craft of the Craft Recipes section of
this site. Attach a recipe for each of the homemade items to the
package. I'm sure the chocoholic will get someone to make it for
them.
FOR THE
COMPUTER NUT
A rectangular basket filled with mouse
pad, 3 1/2 floppy diskettes, cd containers, coffee cup filled with assorted
single serving coffee and creamers and a variety of snacks. For height
you can put in computer paper.

HERE'S SOME CRAFTS YOU CAN
MAKE TO PUT IN THE BASKET OR GIVE AS IS
Coffee Mugs
Place 3 or 4 individual packets of flavored
hot chocolate or specialty
coffees or teas in a mug. Add a couple
of candy canes or a few hard candies to
the mug and tie a ribbon to the handle.
Tea Cup and
Saucer
Put the tea cup on the saucer.
Fill the cup with mints and candies. Fill the open saucer area with
individually packaged imported tea cookies.
Chocolate
Spoons
6 ounces semisweet chocolate pieces
4 ounces milk chocolate pieces (or white,
mint, etc. chocolate)
20 plastic spoons
Wax paper
Line a cookie sheet large enough to hold
plastic spoons.
Place semisweet chocolate pieces in a
heavy saucpan over low heat, stirring constantly until the chocolate begins
to melt. Immediately remove from heat; stir until smooth. Dip
spoons into chocolate, tapping the handle of the spoon against the side
of the pan to remove excess
chocolate. Place spoons on waxed
paper; refrigerate for 30 minutes or until
chocolate is set.
Cocoa in a Mug
Put a few single pack hot cocoa mix in
a large mug. Put the mix in a plastic bag inside the mug and tie
the bag shut with pretty ribbon.
Brownie Board
Arrange brownies on a cutting board with
a container of brownie mix. Cover all with plastic wrap
and top with a big bow.
Salad
Dressing Pack
A decorative salad dressing cruet and
several packages of salad dressing mixes. Wrap it in colorful cellophane
wrap tied with ribbon.
