Victorian Shadow Box Idea

Decorate a shadow box with victorian postcards, antique buttons, gloves, lace, doilies, etc.   Also, use victorian post cards to decorate a glass-top coffee table, and you can update the display by lifting the glass top.

Victorian Craft Wheat Sachet
submitted by Beverly

Materials needed:
Approximately 25 stalks of wheat
String
cotton (or polyester fiber for stuffing)
Narrow baby ribbon
Fragrant oil
Powdered sachet
Tools needed:
Scissors
Safety pin

A sachet of wheat, according to an early issue of the American Agriculturist, makes a pretty ornament, as well as a welcome gift.

To make a wheat-stalk sachet, take about twenty-five stalks of wheat, each eight inches long, and tie them around a wad of cotton that has been scented with oils or powdered at each end. If the wheat is dry, soak it in water first, to make it more pliable.

Let the soaked stalks dry; then attach a safety pin to the end of a narrow baby ribbon and weave the ribbon in and out through the straws and tie up with bows at the ends. Cut off the frayed ends and the pin. Tie more ribbon to be used as a hanger with a bow on top, as seen in the drawing.
