Ladybug Gloves
submitted by Kristin Alberts
Supplies:
1 pair of gardening gloves....I use the
ones with patterns...such as flowers or leaves
red fabric paint
black fabric paint
Put a small glob of red paint on the glove
(the size of a ladybug)...let that dry and then take your black fabric
paint and draw the lines and dots....now you have a cute little lady bug
on the gloves.
Simple
Birdfeeder
(made from stuff around the house)
This spring craft is useful
as well as being charming! Cut the birdhouse shape from scrap 2"
wood (or buy a pre-made one), Find an old pie pan, glue house into pan
(or use screws from bottom of pan), cut out a couple of stars from thin
wood or thin metal (carefully)! Paint as needed, add wires for hanging
all of your goodies! Add a bird if wanted, hang from a tree, add
some birdseed, sit back and enjoy the birds!
Stepping Stones
submitted by Jessie
I used the tops from the large containers
of Ice-cream, Baskin Robins or any ice-cream store have them in their dumpster,
though it's so much easier to ask if you could have the tops and it's the
right size with no cutting and it pops out without any problem, and
you may just get enough for all your stones in one stop. On my first
visit to the ice-cream store I got 15 tops from the trash and the guy wanted
to open another couple that were running low in the case, said he would
be more careful taking the tops off, all
in all I came home with 22 tops and it
took about an hour out of my day.

e used QuickCrete (sp) sand mortar mix
to do our stones. Then I used patio paint to put each of the kids
names on the one that had their footprints on them. Then on one I
wrote Footprints in Time and put a vine on it. Sealed them with concete
sealer he got at the concrete plant. Any plastic will work as a mold, we
even poured some out on the ground and free-form shaped them, then just
picked them up and moved them when dried. The ones that we made to put
outside our back door we made with one of those
commercial stone shape molds and added
cement dye to the mix. Made gray, black, red, and brown. Can
get the Quick Crete and dye at Lowes or Home Depot or probably any home
center.
Seed Packet Birdhouses
submitted by Barbie
Materials needed: 6 flower seed packets
( I was able to find 10/$1.00 packets at Walmart)
1 or 2 of those little birds ( feather
or mushroom: about an inch
nesting material ( Spanish moss or whatever)
scotch tape and a glue gun.
Construction: Using 2 seed packets
place bottom end to bottom end and tape along this "seam" on both sides.
This is the bottom and sides of your birdhouse. Using the bottom of another
seed packet,
measure the center area of previous
taped packets and bend sides towards middle (should look like this front
view): I_I .
Now using 2 more seed packets for front
and back of birdhouse, fit and tape in place to the bottom and
side shaped packets. You should
have a square box with 2 lower sides and front and back higher. These
higher packets, you must now shape and pitch like roof peaks. bending each
of the upper outside corners to the inside of birdhouse and creasing.
Sides and bottom of pitched roof should kind of match. Now
the last 2 seed packets you tape together
side by side and tape the "seam" on the underside only. This is your
roof, which is glued on the bent back parts of the pitched front and back
seed packets. HOWEVER before you put your roof on, make you bird
hole at front of
house. I trace around a quarter and cut
pie wedges back from center of my
circle and bend these to the inside of
house( these yopu use to glue into the
hole your Moss or nest material and then
glue bird onto that. NOW position
and glue your roof on and some more moss
on the roof with another bird glued on
that. I have made some with out
the moss on the top and just used a
butterfly or a bee on top of the house.
I usually use 3 sets of 2 when choosing
my flower packets so I have matching front and back packets, matching side
packets, and matching roof sides. I have done some veggie houses.........
my favorite is a
cherry tomato one using all 6 packets
the same. Once you get the idea down, I am sure you all can think
of neat things to do with them. My MIL loved hers at Easter.. so
"Springy". Someone said for the fall, pumpkins and squash packets
would be neat! They are just so fresh and cheerful to look at......cute
little gifts too, And no I do not take seeds out of the packets.
