Okay, here they are ...
My Peppers
This year I grew six varieties of peppers. From jalapeno and habanero, to banana hots,
to a new kind called, anchoe.
I found that one trick to keeping them healthier, is to keep the soil
mounded up around the stalk. Just a couple of inches or so.
I had three habernaro plants that put out nearly four hundred
peppers per plant. Whoosh!
This coming season I am going to try to get a hold of as many
different varieties as possible.
Oh yes, if you read about putting plastic down for the tomatoes and other plants,
don't try it with peppers!
I did, and I believe that it contributed to their demise.
Cut worms are another down fall to the pepper. And I do mean, "down fall".
They eat the stem down near the ground. You can't catch them.
It's a good idea however, to put a ring around the bottom of the plant
Especially bell peppers.
That way, the cut worms can't get to the stem.
You can use a number of things.
Cut an old paper towel roll into 3 or 4 pieces about 2 or 3 inches high,
set one piece--or ring--into the whole where you plan to plant your peppers,
and set the pepper into the ring.
Be sure to leave the ring, mostly out of the ground.
You can be creative and think of other things to use as well.
What about an old toilet-paper roll?
I may have found a way of getting peppers to put out even more heat.
Though, it does have a draw back,
The pepper that I had plucked and eaten came from a little
habaner plant that only put out four peppers all season.
It was heavily shaded between two tomato plants.
I think this is what made the peppers so hot.
Hey! Another experiment for next year!
