Vegetables

This year, I grew the biggest tomatoes I've ever seen!

I lie you not! A couple of them were bigger around than a saucer.

I've grown tomatoes every year for the last five years.

Five years ago, I started with 2 plants; . That's all that I had room for where I was living at the time

They grew to about 4 foot tall and gave me a few small tomatoes.

The next year I grew six plants. They got a little bigger and produced a few more fruit.

Finally, this year I had fifteen tomato plants. 6 of which I babied and gave special care.

I watered them faithfully every day, kept the dead foliage plucked away, kept the live critters knocked off, and fed them a special fertilizer
(not the critters), the tomato plants.

I also used a hormone spray on the blooms. And I gave them each a calcium tablet once a week.

The calcium tablets were meant for human consumption, but hey, it didn't kill them.

Besides all of this, prior to setting them out, I covered the ground in black plastic and planted them into holes cut into the plastic.

They grew to around six foot tall.

The tomatoes got so big that they would just break loose from the vine and fall to the ground.

I'm serious!

Next year I've got a few more ideas I'm going to try.

I know, you're thinking this is starting to sound like a big fishing yarn.

Well, it's not.
