I tried to search my heart today,
I found my heart had run away
What caused my heart to run and hide,
Was it pain, or was it pride?

I will not tear myself apart,
My body one, two my heart,
Common sense I must not use,
Pain or pride, both I must lose

Oh Lord protect me from the pain,
My tears have fallen like the rain,
Help me to lose this old stiff shirt,
And please remove this awful hurt.

To myself I must be true,
Body and heart cannot be two,
When my heart beats loud and strong,
It will be back t'was gone too long.

If I ignore my common sense,
And lower walls of self-defense,
I will not pull myself apart
And be away from this old heart.

My tears won't fall like pouring rain
I'll be protected from the pain
If I remove the too stiff shirts,
Body and heart will never hurt.

The pain and pride will be no more,
The old stiff shirt, gone, happiness galore
I need not search my heart any day,
IF IT IS BACK, IN ME, TO STAY.
