The Pheonix

An innocent young dove was thrown into the fire
Of an older and more powerful one's unsympathetic desire
As she is slowly consumed by the flame
She criticizes herself...it's her stupidity she blames

Although it was not her fault
It was hard for her to see
She does not understand that it was just his selfishness
that brought her such torture and misery
She waited for death to take her
Prayed for it to be swift
In and out of consciousness she continued to drift

Finally when she thought it was over
She realized death never came
But something is different about her
She was not the same
Slowly, she looked at her reflection
And saw the phoenix's flame...

Years have gone by since that tragic night
She learned to be strong, she learned to fight
The innocent dove was the victim of that fire
But the phoenix she became was the true survivor.
